A few years ago, I started doing what I call daily prayers. Almost every day, I write a prayer. I use a typewriter, I give myself up to two minutes to write and then maybe three minutes to edit, if even.
I am actually keeping a visual component now. It’s developed into a visual diary. I figured I’d share one from last week because it was a nice moment. I thought it might be useful to people right now while money is scarce and times are hard. So I hope you like it.

A Prayer for a Busted Dollar.
Dear Lord,
I was walking the dog (BLESSING)
on a beautiful day (BLESSING)
when I spotted the distinct color of money,
strewn in bits along the way.
Someone had mowed over cash.
For a fevered minute, I collected each
tiny part, hopeful for what?
A dollar?
My dog (BLESSING) was nonplussed and
pulled me back into the day (BLESSING).
We wandered home and I have assembled
my treasure (see attached).
No luck on the found booty —
but it made me think how lovely
the new whole of it is. (BLESSING).
I am peeled anew (BLESSING).
God, forgive my rush to reward
in the face of your creation.
Thank you for helping me see
this busted dollar as a gift.
I am humbled before your Grace (BLESSING).
I am made aware and renewed (BLESSING).
I am loved now (BLESSING).
And able to share the treasure of this life (BLESSING).
Thank you. AMEN
